1.Formation ward base disaster management committees (WDMC)
Total 27 nos. WDMC formed under 3 unions. Every union was formed 9 WDMC under DRR and CCA project. Every committees was include 15 members in the criteria of women headed family, widow, divorced, abandoned women, fishermen, landless, hardcore poor, elected bodies, teacher, students, Religions lieder and local elite person. Elected UP member was selected as a president of the committee. The role and responsibilities of the WDMC is to disseminate the DRR and CCA related message in the community during disaster period and assist to the Villagers for rescue and evacuation during river erosion.
2.Organize session for local level Participatory Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (PVCA)
PVCA session was held at ward level in Kanchikata, Charatra and Nowpara Union during April to June. In this time, SDS had been implemented 27 PVCA to the field level. Ward Disaster Management Committee members with local elite persons were participated actively in this session. Everybody highly appreciated to this session. They never have been to see such kind of session. Most of the elderly elite person can be informed about their living location of 50 or 6o years ago. So we select such kind of elite person. About 7 tools have been used to implement PVCA session. First of all, List of hazard, Sequence of hazard, Risk and Resource Mapping, Calendar of hazard, Calendar of Livelihood, Community level Action Plan, Organization level Action Plan. 20 to 24 local elite persons with WDMC members were attended the session in every PVCA.
3.Water gage installation at community level to measure the water level during the rainy season.
DRR working area is surrounded by the river of Padma, Meghna and Kirtinasha. Almost every year, here occurred river erosion and flood. The community people do not know the situation of water level and there is no mechanism to know the situation of water level measuring. So community flood scale installed with a signboard. The community flood scale is divided of three stages. Down stage with green color that means normal flood which was not the loss of them, even benefit. Middle stage with yellow color that means preparedness moment when we are to be taken preparedness to reduce loss of life and asset and the last stage of upper level with red color that means dangerous period. If the water level is crossed that point, the life and asset is probable/likely loss.
